Current Employment Statistics
Current Employment Statistics (CES) is a federal/state cooperative program that conducts a monthly survey of businesses in North Carolina. The survey provides estimates of nonfarm employment, hours, and earnings data by industry division for the nation as a whole, all states, and most major metropolitan areas. CES estimates are among the earliest economic information available to analyze current economic conditions. Preliminary data are released for the prior month and revised data are released for the month preceding that. Employment estimates are adjusted annually to a complete count of jobs, called benchmark, that establish the level of employment, and the monthly sample is used to measure the month-to-month changes in employment. Estimates are calculated based on work location, not residency. Individuals who hold more than one job could be counted more than once.
